countdown to HKI

Since my time in Toronto is coming to its end, I thought I might make a post about things that I am most looking forward to back home, and things that I will miss the most in Canada. I finally booked my flight for when I come back to Canada, and I will officially be back September 1st! This limits my time back home to less than 2 months...I'm hoping that my friends are ready for me, cause it'll be an intense catching up - making memories time.

Finland, as big as my love/hate relationship towards you is, summer is truly the best time and I am so so excited for certain things.

1. DRIVING - Once I'm home it's been about 7 months since I drove a car. So I'm warning y'all I might not have the smoothest start (my driving was pretty off even after I hadn't driven in like 3,5 months..) I LOVE to drive and I love the fact that my friends like me to drive them around. I'm very ready for a good old road trip to Hanko.
2. FOOD - Where to even begin with. Ryebread, I will devour so many pieces of it that I'm going to explode. Y'all have "ryebread" in Canada but it ain't the same thing. Reissumies and Ruispalat, I'm coming for ya. I'm also ready to eat all the fish. I'm stoked for all the pickled herring and potatoes I know my mom is going to feed me. Because that is basically all we eat in the summer. I'm also looking forward to Fafa's, our go-to falafel place at 4am after a night out. Nothing. Better. We already have a BBQ night planned at my friends palace (yes, palace, that isn't a typo) the day after I come back and I am so excited!
3. MY BIKE - As much as I love driving there's also nothing better than riding my bike everywhere. I miss my good old Jopo and can't wait to be reunited.
4. LIGHT NIGHTS - As much as non-Finns seem to hate the fact that the sun never goes down in the summer, I can't wait to be up at midnight while it's still light outside.
5. THE SEA - Thank bless to dboat I've been able to enjoy Lake Ontario quite a bit the past months, but the lake has got nothing on the sea (especially since we have about a million lakes ourselves). Seriously looking forward to the days we will spend tanning at Aurinkolahti, which literally translates to sun bay. How awesome is that.
6. ESTONIA - Yes I know this isn't a part of Finland but it is extremely Finnish to go to Estonia for the cheap alcohol. And shopping. And spas.
7. HANKO - Best place to be. That's all.
8. Last but not least - MOBLYFE - Because moblyfe = lyfe. This is actually #1 on my list but I didn't wanna seem too desperate. I know y'all have already made a million new summer memories by the time I get home, which means I just have a lot of catching up to do. I haven't seen some of you guys in almost a year so there will be more than a lot to talk about. That last pic was taken on my last night in HKI last summer, and those 3 fools were devouring my famous carrot cake and I know y'all can't wait to get some more. It has certainly been a while...

As I know myself better than, well, anyone, I'll probably be Canada homesick over the first hour of getting back home. Or, it might already start on the plane. Actually, let's be real, I already am Canada homesick. These are some of the things I will miss most about my friendlier home country.

1. FOOD - Yes, as much as I love my Finnish food, I will miss the cheapness of eating out in TO and some of my regular fixes.

2. FRIENDS - Thinking about not seeing some of my friends for almost two months hurts, like, a lot. The inevitable choice that lies ahead once I graduate of where I'm going to live is going to be painfully difficult. Having such close friends on opposite sides of the world is amazing, but also terrifying.

3. BUBBLETEA - Everyone knows my obsession. 2 months without bbt will be a rough time (first world pains...)

4. CAMPUS - As much as res sucks, there's nothing quite like having UC as your backyard. There's just something about being on campus that can well, be depressing because school, but it also has a different feel than the rest of the city which I enjoy.

5. THE SIX - Just Toronto in general. I come from a country with as many people as in this one city. And I like big cities. Going back home will be like going to a small town after living here, but that's totally cool too. I will miss the skyline and the CN tower, but I still have many years of trying to get sick of them.

Having two homes is a curse and a blessing. The time I have in Finland, I will try and enjoy every last second of it, and come back to TO with a fresh start and new goals for a new school year. Next year there will be a lot more going on in my life, and I'm in definite need of some re-charging. Even though I've been complaining a lot about wanting to go home already, I want all my Canadian friends to know that I truly love you guys and I will miss y'all so so much. And y'all should be supportive of me as y'all know how much y'all like to make fun of me trying to speak English at times, going back to speaking Finnish will be a hell of a lot harder.

- SORRY FOR NOT HAVING PICTURES FOR THE CANADA PART. I started out this post when I still lived in res, then had to move and it's been such a hassle. Right now I'm simply too lazy to take out my other laptop (which has all my pictures on it) to add any pictures for the Canada part of this post. But I'll make sure to add a lot of pictures from TO on my next post :)

cherry blossoms and selfie sticks

I would like to apologize in advance about the chaotic order all of the pictures in this post are. I'm simply too lazy to start moving them around… Summer school has started and I've already had one essay due, and my first case study is due next week, which will mark the halfway point of the course. Seems insane that this semester is just flying by and soon I will be back home with all my friends! I'm so so excited to go back home (yet I still have to change my flight…), and even though I will have to work as much as I can because my job plans kind of failed here, I'm super stoked for Flow, warm nights at my workplace trying to spot all the celebrities, Hanko, a trip to Stockholm (hopefully, to go see my Stern twins), Nicole's backyard aka the best beach in Helsinki and nights in the rice cave, once again HANKO, moblyfe and all the fun times I know we will have. I don't know the next time I will be going to Finland so will most def enjoy the 7 weeks I have back home.
All food pics above are from the most expensive and best brunch I've ever had. Brb going back to Dubai for this.
Since I have been terrible with posting pictures, I'm hoping the million pics in this post will make up for all the previous ones. We have our first race tomorrow which is kind of making me nervous. Because we'll be at Milton the whole day, I'm missing out on Eurovision. Not that I'm the biggest fan but it's just very entertaining to watch with friends. To all my Canadian friends, if you've never watched them, DO IT. You'll get hours of laughter and terrible music. If you make it a drinking game you'll be loving it by the end (I know my group of friends back home that are doing this..)
At the moment all I basically do is go to practice, hang out with friends, cook, go to class, do schoolwork…and, you know, eat. It's been weird ever since everyone moved out of res and I literally know no one from my new residence and I haven't been able to make any of the house events because of practice. Oh well. I'm moving out of res July 1st and then living with my friend for a week before I go home, so it's not like I'm here for a long time.
My room looked soooo weird after moving everything out
Got a little excited with having my friends selfie stick...

Whenever I start to write these things I'm at a loss for words and once I've finished writing and posted I get inspired. I just have no clue of what anyone is interested reading about or anything. My life is extremely mundane and just, you know, boring. And usually when something interesting is actually going on I'm too busy to focus on this blog. Buuuuut if any of my friends are reading this (I have already asked two of my friends this question, but anyway), if anyone's interested in possibly joining me on a trip for Christmas break, pls let me know. This could be something super fun/cool/awesome. Maybe I should just end with that, and I should go and pack for tomorrow anyway, since I'm not going to spend the night at home. Kisses to everyone back home and start planning my homecoming party ahahaha
